2 Existing iPhone 14 Models Will Receive USB Type-C Charging Ports Along With iPhone 15 Series

News

Ever since the iPhone 14 hit the market, rumors have been circulating that Apple would release the iPhone 15 series with USB Type-C charging to comply with EU regulations. However, according to recent rumors, some of the current iPhone 14 versions will also be rereleased with new charging connectors.

Apple enthusiasts are getting ready for the upcoming release of the newest iPhone as September gets closer on the calendar. This time, the iPhone 15 is stealing the show, and it’s expected to usher in a major change with the adoption of USB-C charging. While rumors about the iPhone 15 ditching the venerable Lightning connector have been circulating online, recent disclosures point to a wider change that may affect even more iPhones.

A new flurry of enthusiasm has been sparked by a tweet from user @aaronp613. The post indicated that there were references to six additional upcoming iPhone models in addition to the iPhone 15 hidden within the tvOS 17 beta code. According to information from BGR, out of these, four were deemed to be probable iPhone 15 variants, while the other two were thought to be iPhone 14 family members, potentially the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

Notably, this development appears to suggest that after the release of the iPhone 15, Apple may stop making the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max models. This is a standard procedure for Apple to ensure that the Pro models from the previous generation are replaced with the newest technology, preventing any competition within their own portfolio.

However, when Apple launched USB-C charging with the iPad Pro in 2018, the winds of change started to blow. This change denoted a recognition of changing industry standards as well as a prospective departure from the Lightning cable. Surprisingly, the iPhone has continued to be bound to the Lightning port whereas all iPad generations have embraced USB-C charging.

The European Union (EU), which has been working hard to implement a mandate forcing all consumer gadgets to use a common charging connection – USB-C – is one of the main forces behind this transformation.

Tech behemoths need to comply with this legislation, which went into effect last year, by 2024 or risk repercussions in the EU market.
