Mukesh Ambani Stated That Jio Will Be the World’s First Company to Develop 6G Capabilities

News

Earlier today, Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, made a major announcement at the company’s 46th annual general meeting (AGM). Ambani stated that Jio Platforms is poised to become a global leader in developing 6G capabilities. He asserted that Jio would be the first company to develop a network for the next generation.

Ambani emphasized that Jio Platforms has shifted significantly from its origins as a telecom operator to become a technology company. Ambani revealed in his address to shareholders that Jio Platforms’ commitment to innovation extends beyond India’s borders. The company is committed to exporting its “Made-in-India” technology platform to international markets, thereby positioning itself as a global technology leader.

Ambani announced with pride that Jio’s 5G rollout is propelled by an in-house developed 5G stack, which includes cutting-edge technologies such as Standalone 5G architecture, Carrier Aggregation, Network Slicing, and advanced Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) capabilities. This architecture is intended to facilitate a more seamless integration with 4G and 5G equipment from other global vendors.

Notably, Jio collaborated with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung to implement 5G networks throughout India. Ambani disclosed that “Jio’s 5G radio portfolio includes a wide range of solutions, from small cells to large tower-based radios, addressing diverse outdoor and indoor usage scenarios.”

Ambani also praised Jio’s 5G deployment progress. In the nine months since the launch began in October, Jio 5G has expanded its coverage to more than 96% of the nation’s census towns. The company remains on schedule to achieve nationwide 5G coverage by December, marking one of the world’s quickest deployments of this magnitude. While he had previously promised that Jio’s 5G plans would be the most affordable in the world, the AGM provided no specific updates on this front.

In addition, Ambani announced that Jio would develop ChatGPT-like AI systems for Indian customers. “Jio promises to make AI available to everyone, everywhere. “We will deliver,” he stated.

Jio is making provisions to support talent and capabilities, allowing for the rapid adoption of global AI innovations, especially in Generative AI. Ambani acknowledged India’s potential by highlighting the country’s size, abundance of data, and talent pool. However, he also emphasised the need for a “robust digital infrastructure” capable of meeting the enormous computational demands of artificial intelligence. In response to this challenge, he stated that RIL is committed to developing up to “2000 MW of AI-ready computing capacity,” including both cloud and peripheral locations, while maintaining a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
